My Story
In 2008, in the middle of a terrible recession, I up and quit my safe, well-paying job, emptied my retirement account and used it to travel the country. It was the best decision I've ever made because I'm a better person for it. Now I know what I really want.
Until that point, I was a teacher. I drove a BMW and wore a bunch of nice, professional clothes. But I couldn't sleep at night because I would think back over some of the things I had to do that day and hate myself. I gave out detentions for being 30 seconds late, confiscated cell phones when I had my own in my pocket, and told people they couldn't go to the bathroom, because those were the rules. After a while, I realized how insane this was and started doing things my own way. My students enjoyed their work, my test scores were the highest in my department, and I was sleeping again.
