How to Date a Bisexual Person

Bi-sexual is still a term that is not heard of very often in current media. You don’t hear about it or see bi-sexual actors on TV very much. In the Netflix original: Orange is the New Black, Piper Chapman is bi-sexual and you never hear the word during the entire first season. It is almost taboo, probably because bi-sexual people are one of the most misunderstood of the LGBT community.

If you are straight and dating a bisexual person you end up worrying if they are trying to figure out if they are gay. If you are gay and dating a bisexual, you end up worrying if they are trying to figure out if they are gay. Try to understand that this person is in your life because they choose you.

One of my bisexual girlfriends recently dated a bi-sexual man who had a huge heart and fun, infectious energy. She couldn’t help but fall for him from the first day they met. She learned early on that she had to be really comfortable with who she was before she could date someone who views sexuality differently than hers. She had to be open to having hard discussions and have an open mind to who he is. As long as he was committed to her she was perfectly fine with his sexuality.

You first need to understand the person you are dating and what their intentions are. If they are dating you then they obviously are attracted to you.

  • You first need to accept their sexual orientation as bi-sexual. They are neither heterosexual or homosexual.
  • Not all bi-sexuals are the same and they may change their behavior depending on what sex they are currently dating.
  • Don’t worry about the “What if’s” or “What could happen”. Enjoy the relationship you are in.
  • Respect that fact that bi-sexuality is part of their identity.
  • You have to keep in mind that not all bisexuals are raging horn-dogs.
  • Most bisexual men and women do want a monogamous relationship.
  • If you have something that is bothering you make sure to ask questions. They are probably use to a lot of questions and wont be afraid to put you at ease.

Ultimately, whether your partner is gay, straight, bi-sexual, if they are in a relationship with you they are ultimately attracted to you as an individual. Learn to be open and honest with them about who you are and your feelings. Communication is a must in this type of relationship.
