Everything is Awesome at the Oscars with Tegan and Sara

Tegan and Sara at 20015 Oscars

This past Sunday evening many of us around the world were glued to our various screens to watch the 87th Academy Awards.  The 2015 Oscars was a fun and engaging event in part due to the charisma of this year’s host, Neil Patrick Harris but what really made the Oscars Awesome this year?  Tegan and Sara that’s what!

The openly gay duo did a live performance of “Everything is awesome” from the Lego Movie. They were accompanied by the always entertaining trio from The Lonely Island (including Andy Samberg) and the performance also featured music from Questlove, Mark Motherbaugh from Devo and Will Arnett as Batman. Talk about awesome!

lego_movie_tegan_and_saraDuring production of the Lego Movie, Tegan and Sara were approached about the song and teamed up with The Lonely Island to produce the highly popular track. If you’ve heard the song, then chances are its stuck in your head right now. It has since been a big hit with audiences of all ages and the performance at the Oscars held true to the theme and imagery of the movie. Did I mention Everything was awesome?

Background dancers dressed as all manner of Lego mini-figures added to the spectacle and interacted with the star-studded audience. Favorites such as Lego cowboys and Lego construction workers all performed in perfect harmony with the singers and chorus to produce something uniquely fun and special. After all, “Everything is Awesome when you’re part of a team!”

On the red carpet Tegan And Sarah even shared a little about their early experience working on the Lego Movie and their fun but often repetitive sounding song but the pair wanted to keep any details of their Oscar performance a total secret.
