Relentlessly Gay

Relentlessly-Gay-640I was going through my news feed late last night and I came across a post about what Julie Baker found on her door. It was a letter from a fellow neighbor and this is what is said:

relentlessly-gay

“Dear Resident… Your yard is becoming Relentlessly Gay! Myself and Others in the neighborhood ask that you Tone It Down. This is a Christian area and there are Children. Keep it up and I will be Forced to call the Police on You! Your kind need to have respect for GOD. A Concerned Home Owner.”

I opened my door, and found a note from my neighbor. Regarding a set of rainbow jar solar lights hanging in my yard that spell out “Love” and “Ohana”. They informed me that the neighborhood is “christian” and has “children” and asked me to stop being “relentlessly gay”….

Needless to say… I need more rainbows… Many, many more rainbows….

So, I am starting this fundraiser so I can work to make my Home even More “relentlessly gay” If we go high enough, I will see if I can get a Rainbow Roof!

Because my invisible relentlessly gay rainbow dragon should live up there in style!

Put simply, I am a widow and the mother of four children, my youngest in high school and I WILL NOT Relent to Hatred. Instead, I will battle it with whimsy and beauty and laughter and love, wrapped around my home, yard and family!!!

Thanks for your relentlessly gay support!

Relentlessly!!!

The note referred to a set of rainbow-colored jar solar lamps Baker had strung-up in her yard. The lights spell out “Love” and “Ohana,” the Hawaiian word for family. Julie Baker, a 47-year-old widow and single mother of four children, says she identifies as bisexual, but isn’t exactly sure what “relentlessly gay” means.  She could have done all kind of things after reading this letter but what she did next was awesome! She wanted to teach her children a positive story and decided to share her experience and started a go fund me page to fight ignorance with an over abundance of rainbows and pride. After all the glitter settles I can’t wait to see what she does next!!

She has set up a fundraising page online asking for donations so that she can make her garden even more “relentlessly gay”. In one day over 1,000 people donated over $15,000 to her cause.

Since this story was posted online there has been an out pour of awesome support from all over the world.

Christian neighbor doesn’t like rainbows? Genesis 9:13 (NIV) – I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.

Baker says she did contact police following that threat but was told no crime had been committed.

Support Julie Baker in her fight against ignorance and cheers to her fabulously Relentlessly Gay Garden!

UPDATE: She has since been asked to create a tutorial on how to make the lovely solar light jar lamps and she is working on getting a tutorial put together.
