Ellen Page – Women Crush

Last year Ellen Page made one of the most inspiring speeches at the Human Rights Campaign in Las Vegas, now entitled because I am gay, the speech celebrated equality and pushed forward a powerful movement. Page found the most important way to come out and in doing so affected and moved forward the issue for people struggling with the same difficulty accepting them self because others won’t accept equality. Ellen Page works with charities and movements everyday in attempt to bring light to terrible situations and improve living for everybody. Ellen Page and her continuously pushing forward to help and accepting roles outside of the same teenage roles instilled upon young girls makes her our woman crush this Wednesday.   1. Ellen Page once shaved her head for a role.

Ellen Page stepped up her game and instead of donning the skin colored bald cap she instead went full on, shaving her head on camera for her role in Mouth to Mouth because of this she had to wear extensions for her role in X-Men: The Last Stand. Other actresses who shaved their hair for films include Anne Hathaway, Demi Moore and Natalie Portman.

  1. Ellen Page is Canadian

She was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia and attended Queen Elizabeth high school and Shambhala School before studying post secondary at Vaughan Road Academy in Toronto, Ontario. However, she started acting at the age of ten playing a role in the Canadian television movie Pit Pony which they later turned into a Canadian television show.

  1. Ellen Page’s role model is Patti Smith

That’s right Ellen Page looks up to the godmother of punk rock and for good reason. Patti Smith paved her own way infusing poetry into music of all genres and taking over New York City. She, similar to Ellen Page, is an activist working with the Green Party and the fight to find a cure and stops AIDs. She’s also taken stands being the first to protest war in Iraq. Definitely  a woman crush in her own right.

  1. At only 20 years old she was nominated for an Academy Award

She is the fifth youngest female to be nominated for an academy award. Her role in Juno (2007) sky rocketed her to stardom she was nominated for Best Performance by an actress in a leading role. The Oscar ended up going to Marion Cotillard for her role as Edith Piaf in La Vie en rose. This however, put Ellen Page in the spotlight and though she only accepts out of the box roles she has been busy and in demand since then.

  1. There is a cocktail named after her

Skyy Vodka named a cocktail after her called “the Page Pucker.” It was made because of her role in the movie Whip It. If you want a drinking game while watching Juno or Whip It with friends then try it out. The cocktail is simple, just mix a shot of vodka into grapefruit juice and then top it with a raspberry et voila!

Ellen Page is both quirky and cute but rides it well being well informed and intelligent. She is definitely somebody to look up to and I would suggest looking into the many causes she supports to help everybody. There is no hesitation in saying that she is our #wcw.
